Each week over the summer Andover Recreation recognizes outstanding kids and counselors from one of our summer programs to highlight as Superstars of the Week. This week, we are honoring the Beach Buddies program with counselor Allison Wright, 17, and Superstar Collin West, 4, both of Andover.
Counselors are chosen based on their work ethic, interactions with kids, positive attitudes and enthusiasm throughout the week. Superstars can be chosen for any number of reasons, including being helpful and respectful to counselors, including others in play, having a great attitude, and participating in all events enthusiastically.
Here’s a little bit about this week’s honorees:
Collin West is what Beach Buddies Directors Lexi Donahue & Kourtney Crampton call “a true Beach Buddy, through and through!” He is always participating in all the fun activities they have planned down and Pomps Pond, whether it be swimming, playing in the sand, or enjoying game time. Even more importantly, Collin is always kind to everyone else in the program.
Collin says his favorite thing about being at Beach Buddies is swimming in the pond, but he also loves going to the snack shack and getting his favorite treats, including ice cream sandwiches which are his favorite food! He couldn’t pick just one favorite counselor, he said he likes “all of them because they are awesome!”
When he’s not swimming, he also enjoys riding his bike and doing puzzles. His dream is to one day be a police officer when he grows up, because he wants to be able to help people. We think he’ll be a great police officer one day!
Allison Wright is a second year counselor at Beach Buddies this summer, and she has been a “true leader” this year according to Donahue & Krampton. The Directors say that “Allie wears many hats at camp - pancake maker, sand castle contest judge, craft manager – and she does so always with a smile!”
Allie says that she loves working for Andover Rec because “everyone who works here is so nice and wonderful, and we work together as a team.” She also says that she loves working with the kids because they are all so sweet and caring, and noted that they have had the best kids this year!
In her free time she likes to spend her time with friends, listen to music, and play ice hockey. She says summers are the best because the weather is so nice, sunny, and warm which allows her to spend time outside.
As a senior heading into her final year at Andover High School this fall, Allison doesn’t take her home town for granted. She says “Andover is such a nice community and working for the town helps me see how wonderful everyone here is.” After graduating next spring, she says her plan is to attend college to study computer science in the future.
